I caught my bank inside a lie… now what?

This past month I have been investigating an irregularity with my bank and it got me taking into consideration the issue of trust.? Regardless if you are investing, banking, or getting student loans, you touch massive companies.? These corporations are obviously running a business to make money, but it’s probably fair to visualize that some have more integrity than others.? So how does one earn your trust?? Is it the organization or even the people behind it?

My Recent Issue

Last month I deposited a cheque which was just a little from my normal banking practice.? The teller, who I had never met, told me that because the check was out of my routine, the funds wouldn’t be available for several days.? I took her at her word, and said that I had been fine with the delay.

What she didn’t let me know was this check have been flagged as potentially fraudulent.? I still haven’t figured out why at this time, however i do understand that banks need to filter out unhealthy checks so safety measures need to be put into place.? Like I told the teller, I understood if there is a small delay.

The thing that actually bothered me was that they place a hold on my entire account.? Not just the brand new check, but everything.? Like most people, I pay my utilities, rent, and student education loans throughout the same account.? I was both outraged and terrified by what was happening.? When I called my local branch to get things i assumed was a mistake corrected, The trainer told us the hold was, “in my protection”.

Then I got really angry.? All the funds in my bank account were frozen.? Not only some. For them to suggest that it had been for my protection would be a plain lie.? They might justifiably state that a hang on new funds was for my protection, but to point out that their actions were for my protection made no sense.? They suspected fraud and froze everything to make certain that they didn’t become a victim.

The Investigation

Instead of going back to exactly the same branch, I went to another.? Gurus to talk with a manager.? I needed to get at the bottom of this case.? I explained what happened, what I was told, and what angered me concerning the situation.? She assured me that she would arrive at the bottom from it.

To my satisfaction, she actually did.? I learned that because my check was deposited on a Friday, certain regional resources of the bank had recently been closed for that weekend.? Because of this, a hold on just the check could not go on my small account.? The neighborhood branch needed to either place a hang on my entire account, or none at all.? They made a decision to freeze the account, and then tell me it was in my protection.? The manager at branch two apologized profusely, was in keeping with her word, and got to the bottom of my issue.? She also assured me it wouldn’t happen again.

Why Does this Matter?

I’m now left with a fascinating problem.? On one hand, this can be a bank who lied to me which clearly doesn’t value my company.? However, Now i have established a contact who I believe I’m able to trust a lot more than someone in a new bank.

In time interacting with different student loan banks and lenders, I’ve found that not all workers are the same.? The folks at large faceless banking institutions are there to earn a paycheck and get by, just like the everyone else.? Some care about the work they do, others don’t.

If there’s one lesson to become obtained from this experience, it is to locate honest individuals who care about doing their job.? With one of my education loan lenders, I have a direct contact to an employee who I know to be hardworking and knowledgeable.? I make sure all my questions visit her.? With my other lender, employees do not have direct dial numbers, so I’m unable to go this route.? Whenever I have a question or an issue I call and talk to enough differing people until I’m satisfied.

The Bottom Line

My bank treated me like crap, lied, and attempted to tell me it had been for my benefit.? Maybe I’m just jaded when it comes to finance companies and banks, but I’d expect the same crappy treatment from many of them.? Because, I was able to find someone who was honest concerning the whole thing and who could assure me it won’t ever happen again, I believe I’ll stick around.
